SWI-Prolog beta release

Development of 5.7.x started in September 2006. The aim of this development branch is to cleanup the virtual machine and compiler while significantly improving the performance. We do not yet distributed binaries. The system can be compiled from the CVS sources. As changes are only planned to the C source of the Prolog kernel, we created an CVS branch named V57X on the following files and directories:

The new version is currently very unstable. The CVS tag WORKING is set to the latest version that compiles and passes the test-suite. Status:

Only compiles on Unix. Windows Makefiles are not yet maintained, code probably contains some GCC-specific constructs and some of the source-files are generated using Unix tools.
Graphical debugger does not function. Required support is not synchronised with the evolving instruction set.
Use -O to get compiled code for unification in the body and other key optimizations.
